To pay Homage to Richard Wagner , Ludwig commissioned the construction of "Neuschwanstein Castle " , which is now the most photographed building in Germany and very narrowly missed out in the list of New 7 wonders of the world, finishing 8th .

THE KING WAS AN ARDENT SUPPORTER OF WAGNER.HE PAID OFF HIS DEBTS AND SUPPORTED HIM TO WRITE HIS MASTER PIECE OPERAS..THE KING ALSO INSTITUTED THE Bayreuth Festival TO SHOWCASE THE WAGNER OPERAS.
Ludvig II of Bavaria presented the Nuschsomethingstein castle to Wagner.
The name of that bloody castle is so complicated that it was said that Wagner himself could not spell it properly.
