Oskar Schindler, the German industrialist who saved the lives of 1200 jews during Holocaust by hiding them in ammunition factories was the subject of the Novel "Schindler's Ark" by Thomas Keneally and was later filmed into "Schindler's list" , an Oscar winning movie by Steven Spielberg.
